Winter Break

I miss school. I think I'm legitimately depressed because of how unsocial I've been in the past 3 weeks. Which probably explains my new fascination with the dead plants in my back yard. I haven't had any access to the printmaking labs, and I haven't been able to develop the 3 rolls of film sitting on my dresser (it's a 40 minute drive to Wolf Camera from my parents' new place), so my old digital SLR camera has been my only fix.

These images kind of represent my Christmas spirit this year (or lack there-of)...

My grandmother's kitchen in Venice.

If I had these next images printed I'd like to see them large, like 40"x40", so keep that in mind when you view them on your computer screen...

Small Landscapes

For my latest assignment in printmaking, we were told to use the method of monotypes. My concept behind these came from road trips my aunt used to take me on when I was a kid. We traveled all over Florida, and the only thing I saw when I looked out the window was the sky and the flat landscape. Recently I came back into contact with that part of my family, which is how I came up with the idea. I used these to help me through those old memories and feelings. They're approximately 3"x3".

My First Prints

I've been taking a printmaking class this semester and I absolutely love it. I've actually decided I'm going to major in it.

So here are the prints I've been working on.

Orchid Botanical Study, copper etching (this was my first ever print!)

Map Of Chicago, copper etching (I got a lot of requests on this one. I really love it.)

Yummy Food, embossing (I used glue which is why it isn't  very clear. It leaves a very light and smooth imprint in the paper when you run it through the press.)

Beginning process for an embossing I'll be doing for my Conceptual Practices class. This is the only photo I have of me and my father, and it was taken one month after I was born.

My newest print, Yummy Food mini colograph. This was the tester, so before you start judging let me just say that I will be lightening it up around the food and giving it more highlights. But for the most part I'm pleased with it.

Photo update..

I haven't updated in a while, and I have a list of artwork that I have to photograph and put up, but I thought I might as well start with these photos I took a couple weekends ago. They're dark and grainy, but I liked playing with the bubbles (they inspired me for a later project, which you'll see below). I was just enjoying the company of some friends and decided to capture the moment.

Ally is always a pleasure to work with. She helped me with the next project I did, and these are a sort of preview to it...

My best friend is such a frickin boss.
